Tech giants like Elon Musk, Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos were targeted by bitcoin scammers on Twitter. Along with them other celebrities and political leaders who were running for the US presidency like Joe Biden and Kanye west Twitter accounts were hacked in the Bitcoin scam. Word around the media is that it could be a new era for digital war.
Many celebrity Twitter accounts were hacked with the tweet “ I am giving back to the community. All the bitcoin sent to the address below will be sent back doubled! If you send $1000 you will get $2000. Only doing this for 30 minutes . Enjoy!!”. The US Senate Commerce committee has demanded Twitter to give an explanation about this incident.
Twitter has said that the attackers have hacked into their company internal systems and tools. These incidents have happened before but this is the first time Twitter has faced a mass hack of all verified accounts. Twitter removed the tweet within 10 minutes, but the impact it created was more within that span of time.
The following Twitter accounts were hacked:
- Barack Obama
- Joe Biden
- Elon Musk
- Jeff Bezos
- Kanye West
- Kim Kardashian West
- Bill Gates
- Mike Bloomberg
Mr. Bill Gates tweeted “Everyone is asking me to give back”. Twitter has blocked any tweet with Bitcoin wallet address as for now. Twitter chief executive Jack Dorsey tweeted “Tough day for us at Twitter. We all feel terrible this happened.”
Cryptoforhealth is an official instagram account, which was apparently setup at the time of the hack. The Instagram account posted “It was a charity attack, your money will its way back to the right place”.
However information from the White House came that the President’s account is not hacked and it is safe and secured. Now the real question behind this attack is that all the accounts which were hacked belonged to the candidates who were running for presidency. Elon Musk was backing up Kanye for his campaign and he also tweeted that he is happy to help Kanye run for presidency. Joe Biden is the current Democratic Presidential Candidate. All pieces put together indicate that it is more than a scam.
